Norfolk Businesses Provide Nearly 1,000 Meals to Local Nonprofit In Honor of #GivingTuesday

Marketing Agency Partners with Coffeehouse to Raise Funds for Local Foodbank

NORFOLK, Va. — Reed & Associates Marketing, Inc. (R&A), a Norfolk-based marketing, advertising and public relations agency announced today it helped raise funds to provide nearly 1,000 meals for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, in partnership with Cure Coffeehouse and Brasserie (Cure).

The fundraiser was inspired by #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back, that falls the day after Cyber Monday.  #GivingTuesday combines the generosity of people around the world to better their communities, bringing together nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals.  This year’s #GivingTuesday took place yesterday, Dec. 1, and since its inception in 2012, the event is responsible for an estimated 470 percent increase in online donations alone.

To celebrate, Cure hosted a happy hour from 10 CureGivingTuesdayRV1_IMG_1211a.m. to 12 p.m. every day from Nov. 24 through Dec. 1.  During that time, 10 percent of all proceeds from drip coffee and loose-leaf tea were donated to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.  Additionally R&A matched Cure’s proceeds, dollar for dollar, for a total of $310.

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is a nonprofit organization that provides nutritious canned, boxed, fresh, frozen, and prepared food to over hundreds of thousands of individuals annually. R&A has supported Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore for many years. Most recently, through their participation in the annual Mayflower Marathon, donating nearly 300 pounds of food.

“We were proud to partner with our friends at Cure in support of giving back to those in need,” said Ashley Knepper, co-owner and president of Reed & Associates Marketing. “On #GivingTuesday or any other day of the year, R&A prides itself on serving others with the ultimate goal of bettering our community.”

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore can assemble a full-course meal for only 33 cents.  The total funds raised by the #GivingTuesday Celebration are estimated to provide nearly 1,000 meals for local individuals in need.

“This event was the perfect opportunity for us to highlight a local nonprofit and provide our patrons a chance to participate too,” said Kari Redman, general manager of Cure Coffeehouse and Brasserie. “We were thrilled to join R&A in support of an organization that works so hard to feed our neighbors.”

#GivingTuesday is just the start of R&A’s philanthropic efforts this December. Members of the R&A team are currently on their way to visit the patients, and the families, of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of their annual visit, after raising nearly $19,000 in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer.
