R&A Participates in the 8th Annual Bra-ha-ha Competition

Reed and Associates Marketing proudly announces our participation in the Bra-ha-ha® event for the second year in a row! We had so much fun last year that we had to do it again, especially for such an important cause.

IMG_7240While breast cancer is nothing to laugh about, the Bra-ha-ha is “a seriously uplifting experience.” This unique contest was organized by Chesapeake Regional Medical Center as a fundraising event to kick-off the opening of its new breast cancer treatment facility in 2008. It has since evolved into the event it is today, which raises funds to support for all forms of breast health, including mammograms and related breast care services, for underinsured and uninsured women in Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.”

Bra-ha-ha challenges the community to draw upon personal experiences and inspiration to create a themed design used to decorate a basic 38C bra. Entries are displayed as part of an exhibit to celebrate life, loved ones, and show support. Team member Kristin Buck, the designer of the R&A bra for the competition, was influenced by Norfolk’s mermaid sculptures.

IMG_7242“Mermaids are such a significant aspect of the local landscape and culture,” said Buck, “Our hope is that breast cancer awareness and prevention becomes just as important in Hampton Roads.”

Buck used a combination of paint and clay to mold the mermaid, sewed hundreds of beads to form the waves, and attached burlap and netting to complete this masterpiece! All of the bras entered into this year’s contest and will be on display at Greenbrier Mall through Sunday, Oct. 4. All proceeds from the Bra-ha-ha support the Chesapeake Regional Breast Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.
